Visit Finland is a branch of Business Finland whose task it is to promote tourism from abroad to Finland. Sustainable Travel Finland STF is Finland&#8217;s model for the journey towards a country of sustainable tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Companies are required to have a certificate of sustainable tourism in order to qualify for the STF programme.<\/p>\n<p>Hullu Poro has been fighting climate change for years. An international, demanding ISO 14001 certificate was chosen to empower environmental work. It was first awarded to Hotel Hullu Poro back in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dCertification of sustainable tourism at a national level is a natural continuation of our environmental work. We want to show the international tourism market that we operate in accordance with the criteria of sustainable tourism. For years, our operations have been guided by the values that are important to us:\u00a0 Lappish spirit, innovation, responsibility and experience,&#8221; says P\u00e4ivikki Palosaari, Business Counsellor (hon.) and Annukka Paksuniemi, Vice-CEO of Hotel Hullu Poro.<\/p>\n\n              <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n\n\t<section class=\"block_5f5f2c232a3a1 block block__textblock_and_image\">\n\n\t\t\n<div class=\"container-fluid\">\n  <div class=\"textblock_and_image__wrapper row text-left normal\">\n    <div class=\"textblock_and_image__image col-lg-6\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/www.hulluporo.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/yrttipelto.jpg');\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"textblock_and_image__text__container col-lg-6\">\n      <div class=\"textblock_and_image__text\">\n                  <h2 class=\"section__title\">Traditions and locality at the heart of the action<\/h2>\n        \n        <p>There are many intersecting factors to responsibility. In addition to environmental work, socio-cultural and economic responsibility is required.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe take care of our financial responsibilities and are also very transparent with both our stakeholders and our staff,&#8221; says Paksuniemi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dSocio-cultural responsibility is in the DNA of our company. We utilise local products and raw materials. Lappish elements are featured in the interior design of all our accommodation spaces. We use the reindeer theme everywhere and utilise a lot of natural materials. Cultural heritage is highly respected. In hotel rooms and public spaces, you can find handmade raanus (a traditional Finnish weft-faced coverlet, used as coverlets, sofa throws and wall hangings) that have been collected from all over Lapland and Finland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n              <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n\n\t<section class=\"block_5f5f2c592a3a2 block block__textblock_and_image\">\n\n\t\t\n<div class=\"container-fluid\">\n  <div class=\"textblock_and_image__wrapper row text-left reverse\">\n    <div class=\"textblock_and_image__image col-lg-6\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/www.hulluporo.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Tv-huone-2-1500x1000.jpg');\">\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"textblock_and_image__text__container col-lg-6\">\n      <div class=\"textblock_and_image__text\">\n                  <h2 class=\"section__title\">Lifecycle thinking and recycling guide our operations<\/h2>\n        \n        <p><em>Recycle, save and utilise<\/em> is the name of the game for Hullu Poro\u2019s pioneering culture, where lifecycle thinking is one of the requirements of environmental work and responsibility. Recycling has been stepped up year by year. Recycling will be streamlined further as bio-waste collection was launched in early 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dOur property maintenance has had waste accounting by waste type since 2014. We have succeeded in reducing mixed waste by 9% every year. The paths and ramps leading to Elf&#8217;s Hideaway are designed in a way that the destination can also be reached with a wheelchair and strollers.<\/p>\n<p>Ethicality in Hullu Poro also means that nature is protected, and the land is cultivated. The company has a herb garden, a potato field, a currant grove and a lingonberry field in Taivaanvalkeat. Blueberries, lingonberries and reindeer meat are also procured locally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dYou are welcome to Hullu Poro \u2013 come taste our reindeer stew! We get the reindeer meat nearby from Kotaporo, the potatoes are grown in our own field, and the lingonberries are picked from our own forest. Try out our delicious currant juice with your meal.
